On March 17, 1911, Worsham College of Mortuary Science opened their doors on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago. The College is celebrating its 100th Anniversary, and has scheduled the Centennial Celebration for Saturday, October 22, 2011. The date was selected to coincide with the NFDA/CANA's joint Convention in Chicago, October 23-26, 2011. Worsham College will celebrate its graduates and one hundred years of educating a legacy of funeral service professionals.

The Celebration is an Open House from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the College, 495 Northgate Parkway, Wheeling, Illinois. There will be several food stations, beer, wine and a live band, Looney Train which specializes in classic rock. Steve Dawson, a member of Looney Train, plays the keyboard, is a 1982 graduate, and owns and operates Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home in Franklin Park, Illinois.

For those in need of transportation, a shuttle will be provided from the Hyatt Regency Chicago which will leave promptly at 4:30 p.m., and will leave the College at 9:00 p.m. for the hotel. Valet parking will also be available at the College.

Please be a part of the celebration. Reservations must be made at a fee of $20 per person. Space for the evening is limited so please make your reservation early. All proceeds will go to a Scholarship fund.

Seminar on August 10, 2011 at T.I.E.S.(Totally Independent Embalming Service on Produce Road in Louisville,KY).  It will begin with registration at 8:30 and program at 9:00.  There will be 5 hours of CE Credit and the cost to attend will be $45.00.  It will be a program to compare the Non-Formaldehyde Fluids to the Formaldehyde based ones and the comparison of preservation, rigidity,  and general appearance of the subjects following the embalming. Bob Mayer, David Hicks are the clinicians. It will end at 3:30 in the afternoon. Other information may follow as the program develops.


European Association of Embalmers (EAE) recognize Robert G. Mayer, Jr.

, British Institute of Embalmers, and secretary of the European Embalmers Association has announced that Robert G. Mayer, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania  has been  elected as the first honorary life member of the European Association of Embalmers (EAE).  The honor was awarded during the annual general meeting of the EAE ,April 2011, in Barcelona, Spain.  The EAE was founded in 1994 to set a uniform standard of embalming education and embalming qualifications in European Countries. Members from Spain, France, Holland, Germany, Belgium and Great Britain were represented at the meeting . Mayer received this recognition for his work during the past 44 years in the field of mortuary education. He is the primary author/editor of the American Board of Funeral Service  textbook,   Embalming: History, Theory and Practice, the  5th edition to be published in November 2011. He has been affiliated with the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science since 1967.
     Robert Mayer is treasurer of the North American Division of the British Institute of Embalmers,; Board member and co-founder of the American Society of Embalmers; and an advisory board member of the Ohio Embalmers Association. He is an honorary life member of the Allegheny County Funeral Directors Association.
     Mayer was a 1963 graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and is licensed in Ohio and Pennsylvania. He holds a BA degree in biology from Youngstown University and an honorary doctorate in Professional Studies from the Pittsburgh Institute. In 2008 the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science  awarded him their Distinguished Service Certificate. Mayer , along with Robert J. Inman and Don Sawyer was awarded the first Distinguished Professional Award by Vernie Fountain at the First International Embalming and Reconstructive Surgery Conference in 2010.
