Our membership is open to licensed practitioners of the profession who desire to improve their standing in the World by flawless examples of service and performance. As a group of professionals we are called upon daily to perform extraordinary works of skills and art, calling in to play all the educational resources that we have gleaned from the classrooms of our technical training and the classroom of life. It is truly a unique profession and the BIE was founded to recognize and support it.

To apply for BIE membership one must hold a current license to practice in the US or Canada. The cost for annual membership is USD $160 and the submission of the completed application.

Forward completed application to the Secretary whose address appears on the application form. This completed process takes six to eight weeks, due to the fact that all applications are mailed to the United Kingdom for voting and approval. Upon approval you will receive a pocket card and a large wall certificate denoting your acceptance.

You may check your pending application status at any point along the way to completion.

Persons who are actively pursuing a degree or diploma in Mortuary Science or Funeral Service, may apply for a Student Affiliate Membership. It is a provisional membership that entitles the student to attend all clinics and seminars conducted by the BIE, but has no voting privilege.  It is renewable only twice. Licensed practitioners may then apply for full membership. The cost is USD $25.00 per year for basic membership and USD $50.00 per year to receive The EMBALMER magazine from the United Kingdom.

Person who have retired from the active professional conduct of Funeral Service who wish to remain members of the North American Division of the British Institute of Embalmers may apply in writing for a reduced membership cost. The inactive/retired subscription is USD $100.00 per year to continue full participation in the seminars and clinics and continue to receive The EMBALMER or USD $50.00 per year to participate in the basic functions of the Division without voting privilege and the magazine.
